Elephone A4 is an elegant looking device available at a considerably low price tag. A4 has an all-glass construction with a metal frame which makes it look premium. Elephone is known for providing great looking smartphones. So, without wasting any time, let's dive into the in-depth review.
Design and Build
To be honest, Elephone A4 looks like an iPhone X clone. However, this is actually not a bad thing as the iPhone X design itself is brilliant. A4 mimics the same glossy back with vertical camera placement and a bezel-less display with a big notch. Back of the device is made of glass which makes it look like a premium device but as you, all know-"With great glass, comes great smudges". A4 is a slim device with 7.8mm thickness and weighs around 189gm. Consider using a case as the glass is prone to scratches.

On the front, we have an 18:9 display with a big ugly notch. Don't get me wrong, the notch is very big and contains only the front camera, earpiece, and sensor. On the back, we have a single primary camera. On the right, we have the volume rocker, a circular shaped power button, and a fingerprint scanner which is kinda unique. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack on top of the device and speaker along with Micro USB type C charging port at the bottom. SIM tray is on the left of the device.
Elephone A4 looks and feel a lot premium considering its low price tag. However, A4 is quite slippery because of the glass back construction. Overall A4 is an elegant looking device.
Display
Elephone A4 features a 5.85 inch 18:9 IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 along with the pixel density of 275ppi. Well, A4 only has a 720p display but it was necessary to cut down the cost of the device. However, the display is not bad at all. It has decent colors and brightness and you won't be able to tell much difference until you move really close to the display.

The only problem here is the notch. Not only does it looks ugly, but Elephone hasn't any software changes to shift the position of the icons. Hence, this results in notification icons moving under the notch. The thing is if you are going to use a notch on your device, make sure to make some software enhancement so that it can support the notch.
Apart from the notch, A4 has a decent display on which you can really enjoy watching movies or playing games. Viewing angles are also good. Overall a decent display for the price. Remeber to use a screen protector as there is no news about the type of protection used for the display.
Performance and Memory
Elephone A4 is powered by Quad-core MediaTek 6739 chipset clocked at 1.5 GHz along with PowerVR GE8100 clocked at 700 MHz. MT6739 is an entry-level chip, hence the performance of A4 is great for basic day-to-day usage like web-browsing, multimedia consumption etc but moving towards heavy demanding apps or games, you will surely notice a considerable drop in performance. You can play heavy games like Asphalt 8, Modern Combat 5 etc by changing the graphics settings to a minimum but remember, A4 is not made for hardcore gaming stuff.

Multitasking is quick and smooth due to a decent 3 GB RAM, however, the onboard storage feels quite low. Elephone A4 has only 16 GB of onboard storage hence, you have to manage the storage smartly otherwise you will end up consuming all the storage. Well, there is indeed a MicroSD card slot which supports expansion up to 128 GB but you will end up losing one SIM slot.
Overall Elephone A4 is a great performer for the price. You won't be able to play any heavy game which is OKAY as no other phone in this segment can do it.
Software
Now, this is where Elephone A4 really takes the crown. It is one of the few devices in its segment that runs on near stock Android Oreo 8.1, the latest Android version. Android Oreo comes with many new and exciting features like
1. Picture in Picture
2. New Settings interface
3. Notification dots
4. Snooze notifications and much more

With near stock android at your disposal, you can easily enjoy all the latest app and features. Using Elephone A4 feels smooth with elegant animations. Also, stock android means better battery life. However, at the end of the day, there is no guarantee of any future Android updates in the future.
Overall you can easily use this device for around 2 years without worrying about the software becoming obsolete.
Camera
Elephone A4 is not playing any games in the camera department. There is only a single working camera on the back. No dual cameras, triple cameras stunt here. The rear camera is an 8 Megapixel sensor. The image quality is decent with enough details and sharpness. Images are a little undersaturated but nothing much. However, the story completely turns around under low lighting conditions. Images turn out to be blurry and grainy. There is a considerable loss in image quality as you move indoors.

On the front, we have a 5 Megapixel selfie camera which is good in well-lit situations with respectable sharpness and colors. Moving towards a dark area and image quality starts to degrade. Overall Elephone A4 has a decent camera for the price.
Battery
Elephone A4 review | Budget competitor with a Notch Photo 6Elephone A4 packs a decent 3000 mAh non-removable battery, however, there is no fast charging support. Battery life is decent for the price. A4 can easily last around a 1 with moderate usage and you can easily get somewhere around 4 hours of screen-on-time. Stock android helps in extending the battery life otherwise with a heavily themed Android skin, you will only get around 3 hours of screen-on-time
Other Perks
Elephone A4 is a Dual Sim device with dual standby with a hybrid SIM slot. Connectivity features include LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS. Sensors include E-Compass, Gravity Sensor, Proximity Sensor and  Ambient Light Sensor.

The fingerprint scanner is placed on the right side below the power button. It is somewhat slow but accurate and reliable. Elephone A4 also has a face unlock feature but there is no extra mechanism used for unlocking hence, I highly doubt the level of security.
Should you buy Elephone A4?
Well yeah if you are looking for an amazing looking device at around $100 price tag. It has a respectable screen, great design, decent performance, average camera, and battery. It doesn't have any special feature like dual cameras, stereo speakers, water resistance etc but that's the point here. All of the low-end devices don't implement these features correctly or use fakes like a fake dual camera system. Elephone A4, on the other hand, is a decent device with all the actual working features except the notch. Yeah, that notch still doesn't work.
You can buy Elephone A4 from Gearbest.
