Xiaomi Redmi Y2 comes with good features at an attractive price. This Y series is newly launched by Xiaomi and they especially focus on camera this time. This is a selfie-centric smartphone which gives you a decent picture. The display is 5.99 inches which are not so small in compared to other smartphones in this segment. It is the mixture of two smartphones means Xiaomi combines the configuration of two mobiles in one smartphone: Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and Xiaomi Mi A1.
Xiaomi is now stand in comparison with Asus and Oppo with the same specs in the same segment. Xiaomi thinks that the craze of selfie going down in recent days so they launched a new smartphone with a 12-megapixel camera. It comes with the latest operating system of Android Oreo and Snapdragon 625 chipset. This Chinese smartphone company grows day by day due to launching smartphones with new and amazing specs.

Design and Build

The design of Xiaomi Redmi Y2 is mostly same as Note 5 Pro and Mi A1. This handset contains a fingerprint sensor and a dual rear camera at the back which is same as Note 5 Pro and Antennas are present at the bottom and top of the handset which is almost same as in Xiaomi Mi A1. The improvements in these specs are present in Redmi Y2. But according to the users need, these are not a very big change and this is not an issue for us. The only thing matters are that it looks slim and beautiful. The thickness of handset is about 8.1 mm and weight is 170 g which is not so heavy. The user can easily carry this handset.

At the top, an audio jack is present while micro USB port and the speaker is present at the bottom of the device. On the left, there is a three slot tray which contains power button with the volume rocker. The body of the handset is designed with metallic coated unibody and sides or corners are a little bit rounded. The design looks like as you saw in previous years Xiaomi smartphones. There is only a little bit change in the designing. You have options of three colors while purchasing this handset: Gold, Dark Grey, and Rose Gold. All the three colors are decent and look good. Overall, designing of Redmi Y2 is good.
Display
Xiaomi Redmi Y2 has a very large HD display of 5.99 inches with 1440 x 720 pixels resolution which is same as Redmi note 5 pro. Xiaomi comes with extra features in the device which is called Full Screen Display so that you can use your handset in a full screen and gesture mode and take the advantage of this feature. If you want to go to the home then just swipe up and you will directly reach the home. Same as, if you want to go to the previous step then you can easily swipe left or swipe right and you will get the screen of the previous step. It is easy because of the gesture mode in this device.

You can easily watch videos and play games with this display without facing any issue. Overall experience is not so bad because the display is quite larger if we compare other smartphones with Xiaomi Redmi Y2 in this price range. But from certain angles, the display looks quite dimmer but this is not a big issue for us.
Performance
Xiaomi Redmi Y2 launched with a 2 GHz octa-core Cortex-A53 processor with a chipset of Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625 SoC and GPU is Adreno 506 which is almost same as in Redmi Note 5 pro and Xiaomi Mi A1. The two storage options are there in this device. One is 3 GB RAM with 32 GB storage space and another one is 4 GB RAM with 64 GB storage space so that you can easily store a large amount of data in the memory and keep is safe for future use. Storage is varying from 32 GB to 128 GB according to the users' need. It is the first device in the country which runs on Android Oreo with OTA. In previous years, Xiaomi mostly uses MIUI in almost all the handsets but now the competition is much tough in the market. It has some issue but now it will give you nerves if you choose an app here.

It has 18:9 aspect ratio which is common in other smartphones also. We did not face any type of problem while using the device in daily based tasks like web browsing, net surfing, WhatsApp, Facebook and many more. This smartphone handle in such a way that you can easily switch to games from multi-app without facing any issue. Speaker is placed at the bottom of the device and the quality of the audio is good but when you carry your smartphone in landscape mode then we did not get the expected output from the device. Overall, performance is quite good if we see other smartphone specs in this segment.
Camera
When it comes to the Camera, Xiaomi gives you 16-megapixel front shooter through which you can capture decent pictures. A camera has F2.0 aperture and sensor HDR with 4.0 AI beauty for beautification. Xiaomi mainly focuses on camera this time because they think that in previous years, the market is down because of the camera quality. So, it gives you Super Pixel in front camera which reduces photo noise and increases the clarity of pictures and you can capture pictures in dim light but after the test, it does not give the desired output in low light condition. We cannot distinguish the difference between front or rear camera by capturing pictures. But is we open HDR mode then the captured pictures in this mode is better and clear and give you a good output.

Now come to its back camera. It offers you 12 megapixel plus 5-megapixel dual rear camera with the 1.25-micrometer sensor. Xiaomi told that you can capture and do street light photography but after the test, we are little disappointed because did not give us an expected result. No Doubt, it will capture decent pictures in daylight but not give you the good output in low light condition. The overall experience of a camera is not so good in low light but give you a good output when you capture decent pictures in daylight.
Battery

Xiaomi Redmi Y2 has set up with non-removable Li-Ion battery of 3080 mAH which is enough to operate your smartphone full day after a full charge. If you can do your daily routine tasks like surfing, GPS tracking, Using Social Sites like Facebook, Whats App, Instagram then this will run for a day. But if you will use all the time then obviously your handset will not go longer.
Why should you buy Xiaomi Redmi Y2???

This handset is good in all the things like performance, storage capacity, display, etc but a camera is not quite good in dim lights. It gives you 5.99 inches screen size and GPS tracking and 16-megapixel front shooter at the reasonable price. You can easily play games such as PUBG which launched recently. Storage device capacity is good to store the data and it is the first Xiaomi smartphone in the country which runs on Android Oreo with OTA. Isn't it great??? In short, Xiaomi offers you good smartphone which combines with the specification of two smartphones.
