UMIDIGI is a smartphone manufacturing based company who design smartphones with cutting-edge technologies. UMIDIGI Crystal is another great example of how UMIDIGI is devoted to providing amazing looking and feature-rich smartphones at a pocket-friendly price. So without waiting, let's get to the in-depth review.
Design and Build
Umidigi Crystal is one of the many devices who went for bezel-less display by shifting the front camera below the screen. I guess you got the design after reading the above line. However, crystal looks great with metal frame sandwiched between two glass plates. While the device looks great, it attracts lots of smudges which makes the device look unattractive.

Crystal is 8.1 mm thick and weighs around 180gm. Having such weight and dimension helps when you hold your device but the sharp edges make it uncomfortable to hold. Both front and rear of the device are protected by Gorilla Glass 4. This makes the device somewhat scratch resistant but remember, a drop from sufficient height and you will surely gonna see the scratching and cracks.
On the front, we have an 18:9 display along with the front camera, notification LED. On the left, we have the volume rocker and power button which is an unnatural position for the power button. At the bottom, we have a Micro USB type C charging port along with 2 speaker grills. There is a 3.5 mm headphone jack along with the infrared scanner at the top. On the back, there is a dual camera system along with a fingerprint scanner.
Hence, if you are looking for a glossy bezel-less device, Umidigi Crystal will be an awesome choice for you.
UMIDIGI Crystal's Display
Umidigi Crystal sports a 5.5 inch 18:9 bezel-less IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and pixel density of 401ppi. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 which is a 2.5D curved glass layer which stretches to the sides, giving a premium look to the device. Well, to be honest, it is not a real bezel-less display as there are some quite visible bezels around the display with one big chin at the bottom. However, the display looks really nice.

The display is plenty sharp with nice and saturated colors. Viewing angles are great too. However, it is a simple LCD display so there are actual deep blacks as compared to the OLED panels.
Sunlight visibility is great and you can easily use your device outdoors. Watching movies and playing games on this device feel really great as the 18:9 factor provides an amazingly immersive experience. Overall, it is one of the best displays in its segment.
UMIDIGI Crystal's Performance
Crystal is powered by the Octa-core MediaTek 6750T clocked at 1.5 GHz along with Mali T860 MP2 GPU. Performance is good as it can easily handle day-to-day tasks like web browsing, WhatsApp, watching movies etc.

While it can handle heavy apps and games too like Asphalt 8, dead trigger 2 etc, it lags a bit when you first open the app. Even while opening basic apps you will feel certain hiccups but once the app opens, it will work smoothly. Overall Crystal can easily handle some demanding apps so you don't have to worry about the performance.
Umidigi Crystal comes with 4 GB RAM along with 64 GB of memory onboard. Out of 64GB, you will get around 52 GB storage free which is plenty for most of the users. However, people who like to store movies on their device can use a Micro SD card up to 256GB.
Wrapping it up, Crystal is an astonishing daily driver with few hiccups.
Software
Umidigi Crystal runs on the last generation Android nougat 7.0 which might be a deal breaker for some. Most of the device in the same segment are already running on the latest Android Oreo. However, this is not a big issue for those people who just want a powerful device as their daily driver

Android Nougat might be old but it has some great features under the hood too like split-screen mode, third party quick settings, app switching etc. Umidigi might update it to Android Oreo but for now, you have to settle for Nougat. However, you can always install a third-party ROM like Linage OS to receive latest updates.
Camera
Well, most of the device at this price range don't have a quality camera and UMIDIGI crystal is no exception here. On the rear, we have a 13 Megapixel primary sensor along with a 5 Megapixel supporting sensor. The images quality is good during ample lighting conditions. There is a good amount of detail and sharpness while the colors appear to be a bit-washed out. The supporting 5 Megapixel sensor might be a fake as in portrait mode shots uses software for depth effect which is the worst you can get on any device. Under low lighting conditions, the images turn out to be noisy and grainy as there is no OIS os EIS.

The front camera is a 5 Megapixel sensor and for using it, you have to turn the device upside-down. Image quality is decent at best as long as the good lighting condition prevails. Indoor the image quality degrades a lot, as noise creeps in the image making it unusable. In the end, you CAN get a good looking image as long as the lighting condition remains great otherwise you will end up with a grainy image most of the time.
Battery
UMIDIGI Crystal packs a 3000 mAh non-removable battery under the hood. Well, the battery size is decent and it provides 3-4 Hours of screen-on time. However, there are other devices in the same segment which provides much better battery life as compared to Crystal.
It can last a day with moderate to heavy usage but nothing more than that. There is no fast charging support and therefore, it takes around 2 hours to completely top up the battery. You can say UMIDIGI Crystal's battery performs like any other normal device. So, for people looking for a high endurance device, better look for alternatives.
Other Perks
UMIDIGI Crystal is a dual SIM device with dual standby device with LTE support. Other connectivity features include WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS. There is no NFC support. Sensors include Accelerometer, Gravity Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Touch Sensor and Ambient Light Sensor. The fingerprint scanner is quite reliable with 9/10 accuracy. Speaking about the ambient sensor, it is one of the worst. Speaker output is good but not the best when compared to other devices in this segment.
