Samsung has just launched its new mid-segment device, the new Galaxy A7. It is quite an improvement over the last gen A7 because of its striking new features. The new Galaxy A7 comes with a triple camera unit on the back which is really stunning considering the price of the smartphone. Also, this makes the A7, the first device from Samsung sporting a triple camera setup. It also comes with the Samsung Infinity display, which means small bezels and more screen area. The performance on the A7 has also got a boost with the new powerful processor. So Let’s take a complete look at the Samsung’s new Galaxy A7.

Design and build

Coming to the designing part, Samsung A7 is built in such a way that every single user will like this smartphone. There are very slim bezels all around the device with a full-screen elegant display. The weight is also much lighter than the previous smartphone, just 168 grams with a thickness of 7.5 mm. Galaxy A7 comes in four color variants: Black, blue, gold, and pink. Another upgrade is the addition of 2.5D glass on the back which gives more premium and outstanding look to the device. However, it also makes the device a fingerprint magnet which makes it hard to keep the device clean.

The best thing which you will find in the device is its triple camera on the top left side at the back. All the three cameras are placed in a line just above the flashlight. A fingerprint sensor is present at the right edge. I personally like the position of the fingerprint sensor because it is much easy to reach. This is what the Samsung is all about. At the bottom, you will the type C reversible charging port with a 3.5 mm audio jack. Overall, the build quality of the new Samsung A7 is pretty solid.

Display

Compared to the previous year model, Samsung Galaxy A7 comes with a 6.0-inch Super AMOLED display. The infinite display on the A7 has very small bezel all around providing an amazing viewing experience. It is a FullHD 1080 x 2220 resolution display with a pixel density of 411 pixels per inch. Samsung has used Corning Gorilla Glass to protect the display from scratches.

Overall, the display is superb with the colorful touch of oversaturation. The viewing angles are super awesome and the punchy blacks with vibrant colors look eye-pleasing. You will surely get an amazing experience with this smartphone as the display is certified with Widevine L1 which means it can play true HD+ quality in the applications like Netflix, etc. Also, the sunlight visibility is good and the device is easily usable under direct sunlight.
Overall, it is a superfine display which will engage you in its immersive experience.

Processor, Software, and Storage

Samsung has used the Octa-core Exynos 7885 processor in the Galaxy A7. As I spent some time with this device, I can say that there was no problem with moderate usage. Heavy titles like PUBG are also playable on the device but in medium graphics settings. Another thing which is upgraded in this device is its sound quality. The quality of sound is just amazing because they use Dolby Atmos 360 degree sound. But Samsung really needs to upgrade the system as well.

Samsung A7 comes in two different variants depending upon the memory and storage. One with a 4GB RAM and 64 GB storage, other with the 6GB RAM and 128 GB storage. Galaxy A7 also supports expandable storage and users can install the apps in the memory card and transfer the content to the memory card as well. Storage can be expanded up to 512 GB with the help of micro SD card.

As we all know about the latest Android P operating system, Samsung still gives Android 8.0 in the Samsung Galaxy A7. You will get the device with the feature of "Made for India" like S power planning and S bike mode same as other Samsung phones. Samsung added Mall feature in this handset through which user can click the picture of a product and the app will list down similar looking products available to buy online.
Overall, the operating system runs in A7 is not the latest but works well with the latest processor.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy A7 comes with the latest and unique trio camera making it the first smartphone launched by the Samsung with the triple camera on its rear side. It can capture amazing pictures with the help of 24-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.7 aperture mainly focused on low light photography. The second one is an 8 Megapixel ultrawide sensor with an ultimate field of view of 120 degrees. The aperture which you will get in the secondary sensor is f/2.4. Lastly, the third camera is a 5 Megapixel depth-sensor with f/2.2 aperture. We tested this smartphone in low light condition and the results were great. There are plenty of details in the low light shots and less noise too.

There is no difference in the quality of the picture in between the front camera and back camera because both are of 24 megapixels. But the front camera comes with a f/2.0 aperture. We used the front camera in dim light and sunlight and found some difference in the picture quality. No doubt the selfie camera will give you amazing quality images in broad daylight but the pictures will lose details and gets noisy when captured in dim light or low light. Overall, you will get pictures with great quality through Galaxy A7.

Battery and Connectivity

Galaxy A7 houses a 3,300 mAh battery which provides long battery back up of at least one full day. It will never let you down when you need the device for important work. Even the flagship models have a similar capacity battery. With moderate to heavy usage, the device easily manages to last throughout the day with 20ttery left before I went to bed. Talking about the screen-on-time, the battery test evaluates to 4 plus hours of screen-on-time on average.
Talking about its connectivity, you will get all the things which you can get from any other smartphone come in this price range. So what's the difference then? You will find the latest connectivity features like Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz, Bluetooth V5.0, GPS, Glonass, NFC, VHT80, USB Type-B, and one unique feature i.e. Samsung Pay and of course, all the common sensors like Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Proximity, Ambient Light, etc are also present

Verdict

The two things which you can find in Galaxy A7 and not on any other devices are the triple camera set up and lock/unlock button. I think there is no other smartphone in this price range which comes with both the features. The position of the fingerprint sensor is also good and easy to reach. Vivo V11 has an in-display fingerprint sensor while the Oppo F9 pro comes with a water drop notch, the Samsung Galaxy A7 has a triple camera set up. These smartphones are trying to stand out in competition because of their unique feature. But one question is “Should you really upgrade to this triple camera smartphone?” Well, if you love the perks of Galaxy A7 and cope with the tradeoffs than Yeah.
