Broadlink RM Pro+ is a universal remote control which allows the user to control various devices through their smartphone itself. It can control various IR devices like air conditioner, TV, music player, set-top boxes etc and add to the charm it can also control RF devices like curtain motors, garage doors etc. All of this requires only a single remote which is your smartphone. Unboxing

Broadlink RM Pro+ comes is a good quality white colored box with an image of the device itself on the front. There are two icons below the image indicates the compatibility with Android and iOS devices.

On one side of the box, you will find the key features of the RM Pro+ WiFi remote control and on the other side, you will find some key specifications and manufacturers detail.

On the rear side of the box, there is an image which shows how the WiFi universal remote works along with the compatible appliances. Opening up the box reveals the following stuff.

Design and Build Quality

Broadlink RM Pro+ has a plastic build quality which feels sturdy in hand. The finish on the device is glassy which makes it look premium. It has a triangular design and is pretty compact so carrying it or placing it on a table or desk will not take much space. Although, it needs a continuous power supply to work so the placement must be done near a power socket.

Broadlink RM Pro+ can also be mounted on the wall using the mounting plate and screws (included in the package) which makes placement easier if there is not enough space. There are two LEDs on the front, Blue and Orange. The Blue LED indicates WiFi and the orange one is the operation LED. On the right side, there is a port for power input and a reset button.

The overall dimension of the RM Pro+ is 4.5 x 4.5 x 1.4 inches and the total weight of the product is around 73 grams, which is quite light. RM Pro+ Wireless Remote support WiFi 2.4GHz b/g/n and is capable of working with 315/433Mhz wireless devices (again, it only supports 433Mhz in USA). It can also work flawlessly in a temperature range of 0C to 50C and is suitable to use in Humidity range below 85% which is great. Setting up the RM Pro+ Wireless Remote

Broadlink RM Pro+ is very easy to set-up. There are a limited set of easy actions which you have to follow in order to connect the device with your smartphone. Let’s get started

●First, download the Intelligent Home Center app (ihc) on your Android or iOS device. Remember that the support is only for devices running on Android 4.0 and later or iOS 7 or later.

●Create an account through the app using your Email ID and create a strong password.

●Now press the “Add devices” option and select the device by scanning the barcode on the product or you can also choose the option “Add device by category” and select the RM Pro+. We recommend adding devices by category as the barcode may be easily damaged.

●Plug in the power cable in the device and turn it on. If it’s the first time, the Blue led on the device will blink rapidly which indicates that the device is in configuration mode.

●Use the app to choose the desired WiFi and enter the password. Remember only the 2.4GHz network is supported.

●Now, the device is connected with your smartphone. You can now select different locations and devices to control within the app.

Features

Support Multiple Devices

Rm Pro+ works with IR(38KHz) and RF(433MHz/315MHz) devices which means the list of compatible devices is quite long. All you need to do is select the device like TV, Garage door, gaming console in the app. Since a lot of devices are compatible, it makes it simpler to control them all without any hassle. However, keep in mind there should not be any obstruction between the IR device and the RM Pro+, although, there is no such limitation with RF devices.

Customized Scenes

Suppose you want to turn on your TV, Sound system and the gaming console with 20-second interval within each. Such activity or scene is possible through the RM Pro+ by pressing one single button. All you need to do is create a scene using the app, choose the device and the function you want to perform. Choose the time interval between the function of each device and that’s it. Now every time when you want to perform such activity all you need to do is select the scene in the app on your smartphone.

ON/OFF Time Customization

One of the most convenient features which the RM Pro+ comes with is the ON/OFF Time customization. It allows you to turn a device ON or OFF on the desired time. Suppose you don’t want the AC in your room to work all night. You can set it to turn off at 2 P.M and again turn On at 4 A.M. This level of control isn’t possible with the traditional remote at all.

Another example, Suppose a match is gonna start at 5 P.M and your TV is in the Living room. You can set the TV to turn ON at 4;55 P.M, set the lights to turn on at 4:55 P.M and the AC to turn on at 4:30 P.M which will make the room cool before you go for watching the match. Convenient isn’t it?

All Direction Control and Easy Installation

Broadlink RM Pro+ is very simple to install as it only requires one power input cable to work. It can be placed anywhere and it can also be mounted to the wall by using the mounting frame which comes within the box. It can be placed or mounted anywhere as it can control devices in all directions and doesn’t have to point towards the specific device. However, in the case of the IR devices, there should not be an obstruction between the device and the wireless remote. However, when it comes to RF devices, there is no limitation of the device to be present in the same room.

Also, since the design is elegant and compact, you can transfer it from room to another with ease as it only needs a power socket closer to it. Hence, you can place it in your living room in the day or bedroom in the night.

Usability

Broadlink RM Pro+ is a dream come true for anyone who is tired of handling various remotes for various appliances. WIth RM Pro+, all it takes is just one smartphone. Connecting the device to the smartphone is easy, all it takes is just a few steps which are given above in the “Setting up the RM Pro+ Wireless Remote” section. Once done all you need to do is choose the device which you want to control.

It can also learn new controls. Just select the “Learn: option the the app and choose the desired button. Press the button and then press the button which you want the RM Pro+ to learn on the conventional remote. You only have to perform such action once and the device will remember the assigned function until you manually delete the device from the app. With such function, you can even control a device which is not listed on the app but uses an IR remote. Just set all the buttons to perform the desired function with the “Learn” method and that’s all.

We at ValuQ tried the RM Pro+ Wireless Remote with the Air Conditioner and Mi Box, and it worked flawlessly (video attached below) with both the devices. The connection process was very simple and just included the following few steps

●Open the app and choose the Air-Conditioner option.

●On the next screen, we selected the “Air-conditioning Brand matching” option and selected the Brand of our Air Conditioner. The Air conditioner we tested here is from HITACHI, a Japanese brand.

The Broadlink RM Pro+ is a superb option for anyone who is tired of the hassle faced with various remotes for each particular device. Just one remote with advanced features will make it much convenient to control every IR and RF related device in the house. It is small, compact and sturdy so it can be placed anywhere and can handle some minor drops and scratches.

RM Pro+ has advanced features like Custom scene creation, On/Off time customization, support for multiple devices etc. The application for the smartphone works on both Android (4.0 and above) and iOS (7.0 and above) flawlessly.
